In the report on University Ranking across the Taiwan Strait released by the research center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2013, National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology（First Tech）is the only university of science and technology in southern Taiwan ranked in the top 100 for its outstanding academic performance. Besides, First Tech ranks fifth in universities across the Taiwan Strait, because 96 percent of its full time teachers have PhD degree and First Tech is the only university of science and technology in Taiwan ranking in the top 10.
